SHSMD Elects 2012 President-elect, Directors

Holli Salls Will Lead AHA Healthcare Strategy Society in 2013

Chicago (September 15, 2011) — Members of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association, have elected Holli Salls, a healthcare marketing executive from Chicago, as 2012 president-elect of the SHSMD board of directors. Ms. Salls will become president of the 4,000-member organization of healthcare strategy professionals on Jan. 1, 2013.

President-elect designate Holli Salls is vice president of public relations, marketing and physician services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, an academic medical center hospital in Chicago. Ms. Salls serves as the organization’s senior brand leader, managing a broad portfolio of corporate services. Since joining Northwestern Memorial in 2000, she has developed an integrated approach for the hospital’s internal and external communications, marketing, public relations, and physician relations programs. In addition, she oversees the hospital’s corporate identity standards, reputation management, consumer website, physician outreach, conference center, archives, special events, and arts programs.

A member of SHSMD since 1996, Ms. Salls is a member of the SHSMD board of directors and the Finance Committee. A frequent speaker and track leader at SHSMD Annual Conferences, she chaired the Annual Conference Planning Committee in 2010 and served as its vice-chair in 2009. In addition, she has been a member of the Marketing Ethics Task Force (2010), the Futurescan Task Force (2010), and the Nominating Committee (2009), and she has served as board liaison to the Advocacy and Emerging Issues Committee (2008).

Six healthcare leaders were elected to the 17-member SHSMD board of directors for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2012. They are: 

  • Kristen (Kriss) Barlow, principal, Barlow/McCarthy, Hudson, Wis. 
  • Nadine Bendycki, principal and founder, MarketWhys, University Heights, Ohio 
  • Carol Koenecke-Grant, senior vice president, strategic planning and marketing, Guthrie Health, Sayre, Penn. 
  • Susanna Krentz, president, Krentz Consulting LLC, Chicago 
  • Larry Margolis, managing partner, SPM Marketing & Communications, La Grange, Ill. 
  • Donna W. Teach, vice president, marketing and public relations, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio
